When Danny’s Uncle Charlie gives him a remote control for his birthday, Danny can’t help but feel disappointed. What’s the use of a remote without the thing it controls? But when Danny discovers that it can actually manipulate Time, he cheers up a bit. Imagine being able to get into trouble, then press rewind so you can’t get told off? Brilliant! Except there’s someone else who wants the remote, someone who’ll stop at nothing to get his thumb on it. The Night Scientist is after Danny and Danny isn’t going to be able to fast-forward his way out of this one…

Extract: “Danny looked up at Mr Boswell’s bright red face. He took a deep breath and pressed PAUSE on his cosmic remote. The crystal started to spin round and the time display flashed: 10.34…10.34… 10.34… Everything had frozen. Mr Boswell’s mouth was half-open, his eyebrows were raised and his hands were hanging in mid-air. Danny’s classmates were still and silent. Some had been whispering, some had been scribbling in their exercise books, some had been scowling at Mr Boswell; now they were all as motionless as statues, unable to blink or breathe or move a muscle. Danny stood up. Out in the corridor, he saw Mrs Jenkins frozen in mid-stride. She had just sneezed so she had a funny expression on her face, eyes closed, cheeks puffed out and a shower of spit hovering in front of her nose. Danny laughed. The cosmic remote was the best birthday present ever!”
Adam says: “I wrote Danny Danger’s Cosmic Remote because, when I was a boy, I was fascinated with gadgets and computers and thought that when I grew up, we’d all have hoverboards and teleporters and robot pets. When I grew up, and this didn’t happen, I realised that I’d just have to write stories about these gadgets instead. I’m delighted to be working with Nosy Crow, who love new technology almost as much as I do. If anyone is going to bring out the first holographic novel or poems available in pill form, it’ll be Nosy Crow!”
Kirsty says: “As a child, I always liked books with the ‘Charlie Bucket’ factor, where ordinary people found themselves in extraordinary situations. So I loved Adam Frost’s story of Danny and his cosmic remote immediately – it’s funny, clever and, despite featuring a time-changing device, an evil Night Scientist and weird robotic creatures, it feels as though it could happen next Tuesday. If Charlie can find the winning ticket, if Danny can own a cosmic remote, then so can you!”
