Extras

Extract: Olivia felt as if something had just slid into her stomach, something green and slippery like a snake. Jack was suggesting that Evie was a better tightrope walker than she was, his own daughter, the person he had taught since she was a toddler. She felt as if he had betrayed her, and it felt even worse because Olivia was now certain that she knew who had been booing her during performances of the Swan Circus: Evie Purcarete. The snake settled into an uncomfortable coil in her stomach, and as she tried to contain the sandpaper itch in her throat, Olivia realized that she was jealous.

  1. I like the first book in this series as it was very touching . After I saw the extract I did not know that jack’s father would think that Olivia was poorer than the other girl

  2. We’re so glad you liked the first book, Charlene. I couldn’t work out whether you thought it was a good thing or a bad thing that you didn’t know what the character thought at the end of the extract. But I hope the series continues to intrigue and surprise you, which is what the author, Lyn Gardner, intended, I think.
