IPG Children's Publisher of the Year

Nosy Crow publishes the first in Lyn Gardner’s Olivia quartet

The curtain opens on a show-stopping new series for children, penned by The Guardian’s theatre critic, Lyn Gardner…

10 March 2011:

Olivia is sad and lonely and angry – angry that she’s been dumped with her sister, Eel, at her grandmother’s school … and angrier still when said school turns out to be a stage school.

Olivia doesn’t want to act.

She wants to perform on the high wire – life as a circus performer is what she knows and loves… but the death of her mother has tragically changed the scene. Now Olivia finds herself in a new role that she’s not comfortable with… in her own life story. The supporting cast of a grief-stricken father and an estranged grandmother doesn’t make her title role any easier. But as Olivia takes centre stage she’s drawn into a new world, populated by a cast of friends and enemies – and she knows the show must go on…

Lyn Gardner is a theatre critic for The Guardian newspaper and the author of the critically acclaimed Into The Woods. This new series pulls together her writing for children with her passion for theatre, dance and circus – guaranteeing a brilliant opening night for the Olivia books.

Lyn was born in London and now lives in Richmond with her partner and two children, visiting the theatre five or six nights a week … which should leave no time at all for writing books, but thankfully does! Dreaming of one day mastering tap-dancing and the high-wire, Lyn admits her fear of heights might necessitate a ‘low-wire’… but her charming character Olivia is definitely tipped for the top.
