On Sunday, Axel and I met up at East London’s Discover children’s story centre yesterday for a The Big Write event. Axel read The Gruffalo and A Squash and A Squeeze and I read – as entertainingly and interactively as I could to an audience of children ranging in age from two to ten – two Pip and Posy stories – Pip and Posy: The Super Scooter and Pip and Posy: The Little Puddle, while Axel drew.
The best comment came from a little girl who listened carefully to Pip and Posy: The Little Puddle. The story is about Pip accidentally doing a wee on the floor (and the audience was invited to put their hands up if they’d done a wee on the floor), and Posy mopping it up and reassuring him that everyone has accidents sometimes. At the end, Pip not only does a wee in the potty all by himself, but has a bath with Posy. At the end of the story, the little girl volunteered, to the horror of her parents, that she always did a wee as soon as she got into the bath, Her brother, with whom, it seemed, she often shared a bath, looked pretty stricken by this news too.
Axel signed for an hour:
And Pip and Posy came to meet their fans too:
Axel handed over artwork for the next Pip and Posy book: Pip and Posy: The Bedtime Frog. Here are just three spreads:
Posy travelling to Pip’s house by bus
Pip and Posy switching off their bedside lights
Pip and Posy almost asleep
We think Axel’s artwork for this series just gets better and better.
