Nosy Crow and the Mumpreneur Awards on BookBrunch

BookBrunch have a piece on Nosy Crow being shortlisted for a Mumpreneur Award today – it’s behind a membership wall, but here’s the text:

“Nosy Crow has been shortlisted in the Best Start-Up category in the Mumpreneur UK Awards, which celebrate the best of the UK’s parent-run businesses.

Sponsored by Yell, the Best Start-Up award will go to a parent-run company that has launched on or since 6 April 2010 and that has managed to create the biggest impact in the shortest space of time.

In the first seven months since its launch, Nosy Crow has published 15 books and launched a highly interactive and innovative app, The Three Little Pigs. Described as “nothing short of a masterpiece” by the Huffington Post, it has been number 1 in “new and noteworthy” on the front page of the UK iPad app store. It will be followed in September by Cinderella , with two further apps scheduled before the end of the year.

Nosy Crow has also forged partnerships with Allen & Unwin in Australia, Candlewick Press in the US, Carlsen in Germany and Gallimard in France, and so far sold rights to its publications in 12 languages.

Founder and MD Kate Wilson said: “I am really proud that Nosy Crow is on this particular shortlist. It is a terrific acknowledgement of the speed with which Nosy Crow has come into being from a standing start. Nosy Crow’s products are parent- and child-focused, and, though I don’t think it’s necessary to be a parent to publish great children’s books, I know that those of us at Nosy Crow who are parents draw heavily on our experience to inform our publishing decisions. We also work hard to accommodate the needs of members of staff to balance their family life with their working life.”

The awards attracted 720 entries, and the shortlists will be judged by a panel of top entrepreneurs including Duncan Bannatyne. The winners will be announced on 25 September at The Mumpreneur Conference in Warwickshire, which is sponsored by Yell and DHL Express.”
