Nosy Crow snaps up light-fingered MG debut from Nizrana Farook

Nosy Crow is delighted to announce the acquisition of two books from Nizrana Farook, graduate of the Bath Spa MA Writing for Young People, 2017. The first of these, The Girl Who Stole An Elephant, will be published in January 2020.

Kirsty Stansfield bought world rights from Joanna Moult at the Skylark Literary Agency.

The Girl Who Stole An Elephant is a fast-paced adventure story for 9+ readers. Chaya, a no-nonsense, outspoken hero, leads her friends and a gorgeous elephant on a noisy, fraught, joyous adventure through the jungle where revolution foments and leeches lurk. Will stealing the queen’s jewels be the beginning or the end of everything for the intrepid gang?

Nizrana Farook was born and raised in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and the beautiful landscapes of her home country form the backdrop to all her stories. She lives in Hertfordshire with her husband and two daughters.

Kirsty Stansfield, head of fiction at Nosy Crow, comments: “Never has being a jewel thief seemed so appealing. Chaya’s voice is brilliantly endearing – she’s stroppy and lovely, and excellent at causing calamity just by trying to do the right thing. We’re so pleased to welcome Nizrana and her creation to the list!”

Nizrana Farook comments: “For months, while the frost glittered and the air was chilly outside I sat and plugged away at a tropical world of action and colour inside my head, creating The Girl Who Stole An Elephant. I couldn’t be happier to trust Nosy Crow with the next part of its journey as they introduce it to the world.”

Joanna Moult, agent, comments: “The Girl Who Stole An Elephant spirited me away into the adventure from the first page. Nizrana has that magical ability to race you through the story via the most beautiful of settings – I was utterly captivated. I’m delighted that Nosy Crow are just as enchanted as I can’t think of a better publisher for this book!”
