What would you do if you were settling down for a quiet bedtime story and you realised that a crocodile had fallen out of one story and into yours and was – not to put too fine a point on it – furious? That’s what’s happened in Open Very Carefully, illustrated by Nicola O’Byrne with words by Nick Bromley – a fantastic picture book debut that’s out this week. This beautifully illustrated hardback – with clever die cuts at the end – is a wonderful celebration of books and words that’s great for discussing how stories and pictures “work”.
