Copper alloy bell, Nimrud, Iraq, date unknown

This bell was one of many objects excavated in Nimrud by Sir Austen Henry Layard (1817–1894), a celebrated British archaeologist whose excavations greatly increased knowledge of the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia. It may have once been worn by a horse.
