Porcelain cat, Jingdezhen, China, 1690–1722

This hollow Chinese pottery cat is 300 years old. It used to have a candle inside it so that light glowed out of the eye holes. People have kept cats as pets for thousands of years. They are useful for catching mice and rats that steal our food. But they are also a comfort to cuddle and stroke.
