Drinking cup, Greece, 470–460 BCE

Called a ‘kantharos’, this type of cup was used by the ancient Greeks for drinking wine or offering it to the gods. This one shows the myth of Ixion, a mortal in Greek mythology who was punished by the goddess Hera (shown here seated on the throne).
