Crocodile

Crocodile
Pottery crocodile, Jalisco, Mexico, 1970s

This tiny crocodile forms part of a Mexican Nativity scene and looks much less scary than the real animal. Crocodiles found in the Americas are smaller than those in Africa and Australia, but just as dangerous. Wild crocodiles can be a danger even when sleeping on the riverbanks. Alligators are relatives of crocodiles and there are two species. The American alligator is found in both North and South America, and the Chinese alligator is only found in China.
