Glass, Gateshead, UK, about 1880

Made in a late Victorian factory, this bright turquoise-blue glass is a cheaper version of fine handmade cut glassware that only the rich could afford. Although it does not sparkle like the expensive type, the pretty colours and patterns brightened up smaller, less well-off homes.
