Ceramic tea cup, Japan, 2000

Tea is a very popular drink across Japan. Even though it always comes from the same plant, it can be prepared in many different ways: whisked, steeped, or roasted, and hot in the winter or ice-cold in summer. Teacups come in many sizes, but this common type has straight sides and no handle.
