Lacquer tumbler, Burma, 1900–1920

This cup was made in Burma (now known as Myanmar), a country in Southeast Asia. It is made of bamboo and lacquer. Lacquer is the sap of a particular tree that is applied in layers to a base. It can be coloured red, brown or black. Patterns are carved into the lacquer and filled with paint colours.
