Foot

Foot
Terracotta foot, Italy, 300 BCE — 0 BCE

This clay foot is an ‘anatomical votive’ – a model of a human body part that was offered to a god or goddess in ancient Rome. Arms, legs, eyes, ears and many other body parts were also offered. People might have offered these as a way of asking for help with pain or illness, or to thank the gods if they were feeling better.
