Print titled, 'O Rose, O Rose, O Rose' by Kristin Headlam, Australia, 1996

The pink rose is one of 10 intaglio prints by the Australian artist Kristin Headlam, born in 1953. The intaglio process involves cutting or scratching the image into a metal plate. Ink is then poured onto the plate and gathers in the cuts (sunken areas) before printing. Intaglio is the reverse of relief printing (where metal is cut away to leave a raised image). Each of Headlam’s prints is of a rose, with words from William Blake’s poem, The Sick Rose (1794).
