We need a new Head of Picture Books

Kate Burns is leaving us to go to a picture book role at Orchard. We have her for another two months, but after that she’s returning to Hachette Towers, where she worked for 13 years before going to HarperCollins and then coming to us.

We’re very grateful for everything she’s done in the past two years to lay the foundations of our picture book list, of which we’re very proud. We know it’s hard for authors and illustrators when their editor moves on, and we’re sorry that Kate won’t be here for the publication of so many of the great books we’ve acquired together, but we do view acquisition at Nosy Crow as a team sport, and this is a sort of test for all of us at Nosy Crow: we need to prove that we can make this transition as easy as possible for them all.

But now we have to replace Kate, and so the search is on for a brilliant, rigorous, passionate, commercially-minded and experienced picture book editor with a passion for storytelling and a great eye for art and design who we think will fit into the collaborative, unbureaucratic, informal culture of Nosy Crow.

We think it’s a dream job for the right person.
